I agree wholeheartedly, but then I always do.

I've been working my way through the Lord of the Rings DVD extended schtuff, and am again as always struck by the sheer level of worldbuilding in those movies. They were made by people who completely appreciated the level of detail and creation in Tolkein's work, and were committed to bringing it faithfully (if not precisely as written) to the screen. The Lord of the Rings follows a tradition that mainly (in the minds of many) belongs to kids and strange adults, but it means so much to so many that don't fall into those categories, and the filmmakers of LotR got that. The ones for Harry Potter didn't, and it's a shame.

Also? They totally failed to note that kids will notice bullshit waaaay before anyone else.
