Origin, Purpose, Values, Limitations
Jan. 20th, 2008 05:53 pm"Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be" ~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Why I am here, DBQ style.
Origin: The internet somewhere, theoretically invented by Al Gore. (is that a limitation?) Also an an earworm implanted by a friend of mine. The conversation went something like this.
Scene: Panera, 3:00 pm just before the invasion of middle schoolers.
Me: So...Turkey
Friend: Yep! If we get good long distance plans we can call each other after 9:00 pm for free
Me: So we'll alternate which one of us is getting the call at 3:00 am, right?
Friend: Of course, you go first. ... Hey, you know those x-files blogs I keep foisting off on you? You should get a live journal!
Me: Right... (I'm not particularly internet conscious, but "O ye of little faith" here I am.)
Purpose: Primarily to keep in touch with expatriates in Turkey. But also I occasionally feel I have intelligent things to say, and there is a certain satisfaction to supposing someone, somewhere, might read it. Also, to rant.
Values: Citing the previously mentioned, occasionally intelligent bits I create, this journal will allow my friends to avoid me sharing in public. (thus, them having to respond politely with, "You know you really aren't Ben Franklin")
Limitations: I'm not Ben Franklin. I live in a middle class family, in a middle sized city, in the middle of the United States of America, I have not yet seen much of the world (Canada, for 15 minutes) and the things that I find profound are often trite, flippant, prejudiced, and written with passion.
I remain, Your humble and obedient servant,
Georgina Sand
